Directions
Take the direction of Saint Sauveur on highway 15 North, and exit at Saint-Sauveur village, Exit 60. At the stop light, turn left, cross the bridge. Turn right immediately onto Jean-Adam Boulevard (Route 364). Turn left at the first traffic light, onto Chemin du Lac Millette. At the 2nd stop, turn right on St-Denis Street. The origins of the Relais St-Denis deserve to be told. July 24, 1940, at the beginning of the Second World War, the English noble families decided to send their young girls and boys accompanied by their nanny to Saint-Sauveur (more than 80 young people) to take refuge. It is known that England was subjected to the Italo-Germanic attacks and bombing. These girls and boys were going to know with their arrival at St-Sauveur, a typically country life. "Old Colony Inn" today the Relais St-Denis, was then selected like place of lodging and school (Rydal School) for the duration of the world war. They remained in this mansard style inn during the four years of existence of this temporary refuge. More than half of this group regained England using safe-conducts via Lisbon, whereas others settled permanently in Montreal. During the 70's, important work of restoration and enlarging the hotel was undertaken. The establishment preserved its "U" shape appearance. You can find large airconditioned rooms and suites with fireplace. The dining rooms, lounge bar and conference rooms are all located in the old part of the building. An outside swimming pool overlooking the dining room and the exterior terrace surrounded by our Laurentian’s garden is also accessible to our guests during summertime. Interesting detail, famous reproductions of paintings of the Renaissance were painted on the walls of the leading corridor to the rooms of the more recent part of the building. You can find the famous portrait of the Mona Lisa reproduced by a local artist known as Desrapes. |
